Cab Services in Andaman Islands are very much in demand during seasons there is a huge shortage of cab vehicle and it is preferred to get your cabs booked in advance to avoid the last minute hassle. Being on this island, ferry services are essential; however, there are some destinations that can be accessed by cab. Places to Explore by Road / Cab in South Andaman
South Andaman is one of the most suitable regions for road travel in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Smoothly laid roads, scenic coastal stretches, dense tropical forests and peaceful villages make cab travel the most reliable option.
All major destinations such as Port Blair, Baratang, Rangat, Mayabunder and Diglipur are connected through the Andaman Trunk Road. From Port Blair to Diglipur the total road distance is approximately 300 kilometres. While travelling north, several sightseeing locations fall on the way which can be comfortably covered only by private cab.
Choosing a cab allows travellers to explore attractions that are otherwise difficult to reach by public transport and also provides flexibility in timing and stops.
Road Journey Starting from Port Blair
Port Blair is the capital city and the main arrival point of the Andaman Islands. All road trips to nearby beaches and long-distance destinations begin from here.
Port Blair has local markets, hotels, ferry terminals and government offices. Private cabs are easily available from the airport and hotels, making it convenient to start early morning journeys.
Nearby road trip places from Port Blair include Chidiatapu, Wandoor Beach and the starting route for Baratang, Rangat and Diglipur.
Trip to Baratang Island by Road
Baratang Island is one of the most popular road trip destinations from Port Blair. It is well known for limestone caves, mud volcano and mangrove creeks.
Distance from Port Blair to Baratang is around 100 kilometres. Travel time is approximately 3 to 3.5 hours one way depending on convoy movement and ferry waiting time.
The journey is done via the Andaman Trunk Road and passes through the protected Jarawa Tribal Reserve area. A short vehicle ferry crossing is required at Middle Strait.
From Baratang Jetty, local jeeps are used to reach sightseeing points.
Places to Visit in Baratang
- Limestone Caves
Located around 7 kilometres from Baratang Jetty. It takes around 30 minutes including a short boat ride through mangrove creeks and a walking trail. There are no markets nearby, so visitors should carry essentials. - Mud Volcano
Situated approximately 8 kilometres from the jetty. It takes about 20 minutes by jeep. This is a natural geological formation located away from the main settlement.
There are no bike rentals, auto rickshaws or local taxis available in Baratang. Hence hiring a cab from Port Blair is the most convenient option.
Road Trip to Rangat Island
Rangat is known for its eco tourism attractions, peaceful beaches and local village culture.
Distance from Port Blair to Rangat is approximately 170 kilometres. Travel time ranges between 6 to 7 hours.
Hiring a cab for Rangat is ideal as the driver stays with you throughout the journey and helps with hotel transfers and sightseeing.
Places to Visit in Rangat
- Amkunj Beach
Located around 8 kilometres from Rangat town. Travel time is about 15 minutes. It is not near the main market but has basic facilities and is known for its eco-friendly design. - Cuthbert Bay Beach
Approximately 15 kilometres from Rangat town. Travel time is around 25 minutes. This beach is famous for turtle nesting and is located away from crowded areas. - Panchvati Hills and Waterfall
Situated around 10 kilometres from Rangat town. It takes about 20 minutes to reach and requires a short walk from the parking area.
Road Journey to Mayabunder
Mayabunder is a calm destination in Middle Andaman known for beaches and mangrove surroundings.
Distance from Port Blair to Mayabunder is approximately 240 kilometres. The road journey takes around 8 to 9 hours with breaks.
Mayabunder town has basic markets, small hotels and local eateries.
Places to Visit in Mayabunder
- Karmatang Beach
Located around 12 kilometres from Mayabunder town. Travel time is about 20 minutes. This beach is famous for turtle nesting and is away from the main market area. - German Jetty
Situated around 5 kilometres from Mayabunder town. It takes approximately 10 minutes to reach. It is a quiet place mainly used for photography and short visits.
Road Trip to Diglipur
- Diglipur is the northernmost tourist destination of Andaman and is known for untouched beaches and hills.
- Distance from Port Blair to Diglipur is approximately 300 kilometres. The journey takes around 10 to 12 hours and crosses Baratang, Rangat and Mayabunder.
- Though the journey is long, the scenic forest views and coastal stretches make it worthwhile.
Places to Visit in Diglipur
- Ross and Smith Island
Located around 20 kilometres from Diglipur town. Travel time is about 30 minutes by road followed by a short boat ride. - Saddle Peak
Situated around 10 kilometres from Diglipur town. It takes about 20 minutes by road to reach the trekking point. Saddle Peak is the highest point in Andaman. - Kalipur Beach
Located around 5 kilometres from Diglipur town. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes. The beach is close to hotels but slightly away from the market area.
Chidiatapu Sunset Road Trip
- Chidiatapu is a popular sunset destination near Port Blair.
- Distance from Port Blair city is approximately 30 kilometres. Travel time is around 1 hour.
- The place is known for rocky beaches, bird watching and peaceful surroundings. There are no major markets nearby, so visitors usually return to Port Blair after sunset.
Wandoor Beach Road Trip
- Wandoor Beach is located around 25 kilometres from Port Blair. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes.
- It is the entry point for Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. The beach is clean and peaceful and has limited local shops near the parking area.
- Cabs are recommended as public transport options are limited.
North Bay Island Road Trip
- North Bay Island trip starts with a road journey from Port Blair to the Water Sports Complex or Chatham Jetty.
- Distance from city centre to jetty is around 5 kilometres. Travel time is about 15 minutes.
- From the jetty, tourists take a boat to North Bay Island which is known for coral reefs and water sports activities.
